INTRODUCTION

As an entrepreneur with a 26 year business footprint, I managed my own recruitment company for 21 years. Our unique differentiation was our purpose, strategy and delivery in the field of Employment Equity HR Consulting, Staffing and People Placement Services. With a team of 25 staff members, Nadia Mason Personnel became the platform upon which historically disadvantaged South Africans presented their skills and competence, thereby moving forward to add value to many businesses. I developed and implemented a successful 'BEST PRACTICE RECRUITMENT MODEL", inclusive of the placement of Persons with Disabilities for all levels of recruitment. This resulted in the company being the preferred service provider to Sanlam, Santam and Old Mutual national Learnership campaigns from 2004 to 2010, coupled to initiating career placements for many.

Nadia Mason Personnel, founded in 1991, was a forerunner viz: in the placement of Black South Africans in the corporate, government and non-government sectors; being one of the very first Black Woman owned and managed recruitment businesses in the Western Cape, as well as one of the first recruitment agencies in South Africa to initiate an Affirmative Action media and business strategy.

The market responded to our business offer to such an extent that my role became more strategic and client consultation focused, whilst still overseeing the operational functions through the management team of the divisions of Permanent Staffing Placements, Temp Staffing Placements, Project Management and HR Consulting. My role as Secretary General of Black Management Forum in the Western Cape augmented the business purpose of the company through the Organisational Transformation Portfolio which was the space for transformational dialogue.

For the past 4 years my focus has evolved into my passion for People Development Practices i.e. Coaching, Facilitation and HR Consulting within the professional business arena, non-government organisations and the educational sector. The primary approach is the theory and process known as "The Thinking Environment – The Ten Components of a Thinking Environment", created and pioneered by Nancy Kline, President of Time to Think, an international leadership, development and coaching organization - (www.timetothink.com). The essence of my service offer is facilitating Dialogue between leadership, management and staff across divisions and organisations using best practice methods, inclusive of Integral Theory and Integral Approach to embody awareness, morale, self-development, emotional literacy/intelligence and performance. A key tool is illuminating the influence of good thinking through developing awareness of thinking enhancers and thinking inhibitors. To quote Nancy: "The quality of everything we do, depends on the quality of the thinking we do first".

Current Company: Evolution Training Solutions - MD

This is an integrated Coaching, Facilitation, HR Consulting and Stress Relief Management business servicing both the corporate and non-corporate sectors. I merged my coaching, facilitation, executive search, talent acquisition, human resource consulting and recruitment services in ETS to offer a one-stop People Development Solution to our clients. The company is 100% Black owned and managed.

Role – People Development Coach / Facilitator / HR Consultant

  • Leadership Coaching and Facilitation: Current Project 2011 to date - University of the Western Cape (UWC): Department of Finance and Services: Facilitation and Coaching of the Leadership (Directors) and Management Teams in line with the Leadership Development Initiative scope and brief of the Executive Director of Finance. Services entail i.e. individual coaching; team facilitation and coaching; facilitating the practice of dialogue, time to think practices, meeting facilitation; introducing and facilitating leadership and management development practices and personal development plans. Furthermore, the facilitation of the new business strategy for Finance, Innovation, Operations and Infrastructure (FIOI) with the Executive Director and his 4 Directors, then facilitating the management and staff input and awareness sessions as part of his inclusive and consultative initiative. I am coaching approximately 25 team members whilst having facilitated in excess of 50 additional staff. The Executive Director is a pioneer in being one of the first Finance Executives in Academia to initiate a people development leadership programme of this nature to enhance morale and performance.
  • Executive Coaching: Coaching CEOs, Directors, Managers, Leaders and Individuals to improve personal and work performance.
  • Operational Coaching: 2010: Onsite Operational Coach for Anglo American Global Shared Services - Resourcing:  My brief was to operationally Coach the Resourcing Team to shift from a typical personnel department into that of a proactive recruitment agency geared to offer high level customer and resourcing services to the wider Anglo business. The team achieved a 98% service level agreement client satisfaction rate still applicable to this day.

Nadia Mason Personnel (NMP) - Nadia Mason Consulting (NMC) - Nadia Mason & Associates (NMA) – Founder

1991 - 2010: NMC was geared towards providing Temp and Contract staff to corporate South Africa. In addition, the business had a dedicated Project Management Division that specialized in mass recruitment campaigns i.e. Woolworths Seasonal Retail staff. Led teams of 10 – 80 staff members, project managed the reduction of 25 000 applications to 1200 Seasonal Staff placements annually.

1991 to 2010: NMP & NMA business focused on connecting Black Executives, Management and Professionals to corporate companies from Chairman of the Board level to Executives and Management, as well as general staffing.

  • Project Management e.g.: GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World: Appointed and managed a team of 150 – reduced 40 000 inbound telephone calls to a shortlist of 10 000 who attended the GW presentation. This group was further reduced to 6 500 who underwent a 90 minute assessment. The final outcome was a shortlist of 4 500 of which 2000 were employed by GW. The project was 8 weeks long and the biggest and most successful of its kind in the history of the Western Cape. I led the process of designing and implementing the Operations and Project Plan together with key team members and business advisors. We were commended on the thoroughness of our tender, contingency plans, community inclusivity and smooth execution.
